Hi everyone
I am replacing the roof lining/wallpaper in my 26 Family. In the process I have taken off most of the wood trim in the cabin. What is the best method to restore this wood? I assume it is mahogany.
Remove old varnish by heat gun and scraping or just sand it off?
What varnish do you recommend? I would rather have semi gloss/ semi Matt finish and maximum 3-4 coats to apply
Thank you all in advance!

I just sanded down all the wood in our 26 family and used Hempel Satin Gloss varnish with 8 coatings.
The first 2 thinned 30 %, the next 5 direct from the can, and the last thinned 10 %

Thanks for your answer Søren. Could you share some details on the grade of paper you used and if you used a machine (orbital sander?) for this? Also are you talking about the trim (window frames etc) or the main wooden panels/walls in the cabin?

I used grain 80, 120 and 240 for sanding. If you are using an orbital sander it is important not to use too rough a grain as it leaves scar marks in the surface.
The window trim was totally rotten and I made new in oak tree instead.
All bulkheads and trim was sanded down to fresh wood before varnishing.
