What wood in the cabin?

I have a 1976 Family and I’m planning to renovate the cabin. Can anyone tell me what wood is Mahogany and what is teak? I will first start with the window frames in the main cabin and the sleeping cabin.

Thank you for the answer! Do you happen to know/recommend how best to treat the wood after sanding? Oil or varnish? Any brands that work best/are easiest to apply?

Thanks. I was hoping you might say oil. I have experience of varnishing the deck on this boat approx 6m2 surface. Removing with a hot air gun, scraping, preparing, sanding and then 7 coats sanding in between. I used Epifanes and I’m not totally satisfied with the application process or results. A lot of hard work many coats and quite a soft finish after 3 months of hardening and use. Any recommendations for varnish that needs less coats than 7?

When i did the same job on my Family i used International Schooner varnish. I put on two coat of varnish before sanding, that is possible if you varnish the next coat apr 24 hours after the first one. I waited a few days before sanding and put on two new coats. I did 6 coats, but the surface isn't perfect. But it will not be perfect the first year, the really nice surface you will get the next year when the varnish is really hard and it is possible to sand it a bit harder before the 7'th coat.

But for the window frames 6 coats is good enough for me.

Thanks Johan! I will research the varnish selection to see which one is best for the job. After my experience with the deck the window frames will be a walk the park 😄

I have done my aft deck too, and it was for sure a lot of sanding. But pretty easy with the big pieces to sand, compared to the trim around all windows. For my teak plywood aft deck i used Woodskin. Got an excellent result, only three coats needed and no sanding between the coats.

Please check Coelan, the best result with yellow primer, its expensive but the best cover ever. Its a German product. I never work with normal varnish.
