Hi, I am just about to have the keel dropped of my 1978 Elvestrom 38 and would be interested of other owners stories who have done the same thing. I am also having to rebuild the mast step as this has cracked front to back. Does anybody know if the keel bolts can be removed or are they cast into the lead? I am looking at the keel drawings on this site and can't tell. Any information or pictures would be most welcome.

Hi Jason. Did you find any information concerning the keel? Did you drop the keel yet?

Hi Mike, I didn't find much information apart from the keel drawing and a few photos in the Coronet Archive.
I have now had the keel dropped, the keel stub repaired and strengthened and refitted..... a long job. At the same time we also removed the anti fouling and painted it with a protective layer and copper coat plus fittted a bow thruster. If you are thinking of doing the same I have taken many photos which I am happy to share.

Hi Jason:
Why did you have to drop the keel?

Hi John, the keel was dropped as the front keel bolt was leaking and to check the bolts for corrosion which were found to be fine. I have also attached a picture of the crack looking aft which we think was caused by falling off a large wave and the momentum of the mast pushing down. The step was mostly made of hardwood covered in glass fiber and was otherwise in good condition and not rotten.
