!
Am currently installing a V8 Volvo aq290 and due to high cost of fabricating steel cross member engine mount am considering bonding two wood bearers lengthwise into the hull
Which would make installing the engine easier to line up
Any help, advise drawings etc
Would be greatfully appreciated

I would strongly advise You to consider a homogenous construction of fibre-glass- epoxy or polystyren. The use of wood I lower parts of a boat, aswell as in the transom is something I consider a second-best solution. I have replaced the plywood in 3 vessels with GRP and I think You should consider this before using wood.
Good luck

Hi Peter,
Check the enclosed link.
I would recommend steel or GRP. Wood is a living material and gets affected by water and heat. A steel construction made from simple design elements shouldn't cost a fortune but you can rely on it for many years. My engine mount is made from 3 u-beams, 2 end plates for fixation to the longitude beams in the hull and 2 plates for the engine rubber mounts.
Good luck!
