Hello from Australia. I am looking at buying a 1984, 33 footer that needs a LOT of work. Can anyone tell me if the hull is a displacement or planing hull. As the boat is in the water on a mooring and has several years growth on the bottom, its a bit hard to see the actual hull underneath to work which type it is. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cheers, Tim.

Hi Poul, thanks for your response. I will try for a photo, but my apologies as she is a 1984, 31 Aft Cabin, not a 33 footer!
So is a 31 Aft Cabin a planing or displacement hull and how many horsepower would it be? The two engines are diesel Volvo Penta shaft drives. Thank you in advance. Cheers, Tim

Hi Tim, the 31 aft cabin has a displacement hull. What model of engines is it? It's probably somewhere around 120 to 165 HP per engine if it's the original engines. 1984 seems late for a 31 aft cabin, are you sure about the year?

31 Aft Cabin
Hi Christoffer. Thanks for your reply. 1984 is the year I have been told but the seller is not really sure.
Would you know what the 31 aft cabins draught is?
Thanks. Cheers, Tim

Hello everyone. Does anybody know what type of speed the 31 Aft Cabin is capable of? The one I am looking at has twin diesel Volvo Penta shaft drives. Thanks in advance.

Hello Tim, Top speed for 31 Aft Cabin is of course dependent on the engine installation. Test reports from the factory in the mid-1970s indicate that the new boats at that time had a top speed of 17-20 knots depending on the engines. Members with boats with new engine installations in some cases report a top speed of 20-25 knots. Exact draught is also dependent on the engine installations, some brochures from the factory specify the draught to 0.85, 0.95 or 100 cm. Test reports, brochures and more than 1000 other documents about 31 Aft Cabin are available in the Coronet archive for club members, also descriptions by the owners of ca 40 boats of this model in the club’s Coronet registry. If you know the hull number of the boat you are looking at, there is specific information in the Coronet archive about the boat, when it was built and the original engine installation. The hull number is found on the inside of the transom. Good luck and welcome to become a club member!
